For years, cameras have had the ability to capture vivid whites and deep colours that TVs and monitors haven’t had the ability to show.

In this Cinema EOS Session, cinematographer Jeremy Benning of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers (CSC) explains how the High Dynamic Range (HDR) format used in new cameras and monitors display colours in a way never seen before, and describes the difference between the SDR Rec 709 colour range and the Rec 2020 colour range being used in new 4K and UHD formats.
